HEY: Would you like us to put your name on the permit for Nepal or Tibet ??
ITS TIME TO DECIDE WHICH TRIP YOU WILL JOIN ME ON (PLEASE CHOOSE ONE OR MORE OF THE BELOW TRIPS):
SPOILED FOR CHOICE? DIFFICULTY DECIDING?? WELL, YOU CAN SEE FROM THE LIST OF TRIPS ABOVE THAT WE RUN A WIDE VARIETY OF TRIPS ON BOTH THE NEPAL AND TIBET SIDES OF EVEREST.
NEPAL (SOUTH) vs TIBET (NORTH) SIDE: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
The success rate in the past has been a bit higher on the South, although that is rapidly changing with climate change making the North side warmer and the recent advent of strong well organised Tibetan rope fixing teams on the North.
The Tibet side is generally considered colder, as it sees less sun, whereas the Nepal side can get decently warm when the sun is out. The new name for the Western Cwm is the "Western Barbecue". It's a major consideration for some, especially those more susceptible to getting cold in their extremities. Tibet has a higher basecamp at 6400 metres / 21,000 feet, known as ABC (advanced basecamp), as opposed to Nepal, where base camp (EBC) is at 5000 metres/17,400 feet.
Another big factor making Nepal more desireable is having the luxury of our special cook preparing 3 hot meals each day for you in Camp 2 on the Nepal side at 6400m / 21,000 feet.
The route itself is considered easier on the North side up to camp 4, where you sleep before summit day, but above camp 4 there are three technical sections (known as the First, Second, and Third Steps). While the South side has the notorious Hillary Step.
Another consideration is the treacherous Khumbu Ice Fall on the South, where you have to cross large bottomless crevasses via ladders strapped together end to end. It is the most dangerous part of the ascent via either side, and it's for this reason alone that some people choose to climb from the North.
Not to be underestimated is the beauty of the trek to basecamp in Nepal, with myriad green valleys, charming villages, teahouses, and friendly Sherpa families. In Tibet, you drive to basecamp through towns. Although, the view of Everest from Tibet is unmatched, much better than Nepal.
Another difference is the hilarious carnival like atmosphere of base camp in Nepal, with so many teams jammed together on the rather small Khumbu glacier, it almost feels like you are in the crowded Thamel tourist neighborhood of Kathmandu, as opposed to Tibet base camp, a vast alluvial plain where teams might be camped 1 kilometre (half a mile) apart.

One big difference is price. We often hear it said: "If cost is no object, go for the South." The Northern route is generally cheaper than the Southern Route. This is because logistics and getting people and supplies to base camp is done by jeep, bus and truck. On the South, people and supplies are first flown from Kathmandu to Lukla (world's most dangerous airport), then people hike and supplies are taken by Yak to base camp.
So please make your choice carefully. We are here to assist you in your decision and answer all of your questions personally, so please don't hesitate to ask.
