LAST DAYS OF MAY NEWSLETTER - CHALLENGE AT THE HIGHEST ALTITUDES. SHERPA TRAGEDY. AN EYE OPENING EXCITING SEASON OF CLIMBING AND TREKKING LIES AHEAD.

This is Dan Mazur, www.SummitClimb.com and www.SummitTrek.com leader with 12 years' experience writing to you from the sunny rooftop garden of our inexpensive and luxurious Kathmandu hotel. Birds are tweeting and circling, butterflies float by borne upon thermal breezes, and just a few kilometres/miles from here, green forested hillsides rise from the Kathmandu valley floor, topped by snow-capped peaks. Yesterday was a peaceful and quiet day of rest, and a lovely warm sunny day for swimming in a nearby crystal clear sparkling 5-star hotel pool. After a delicious fragrant dinner of fresh veggies, rice, and skilfully prepared fish, we slept soundly and were up to greet the day with freshly brewed locally grown tea, early morning exercise and sunrise salutations on a dewy morning.

THE SAD SHERPA TRAGEDY OF 18 APRIL: Near the top of Nepal's Khumbu Icefall, at 6:40 am on 18 April, 16 Sherpas from 6 other teams were killed when an avalanche fell onto them whilst they sat upon their rucksacks at the base of an avalanche face. In memory of those lost, & to help their families, we will contribute to the Sherpa family fund and also urge you to. Please join SummitClimb and SummitTrek to give funds, climbing equipment, clothing and shoes needed for crucial Sherpa education, training and development at www.SherpaTrainingSchool.org . Any and all used and/or new items are welcome.
