Welcome to our August newsletter, where we share plans for September, October and November climbs, walks, and charity projects, beginning in just a month. IF YOU HURRY, THERE IS STILL TIME TO JOIN OUR FUN TEAM OF MEN AND WOMEN OF ALL AGES FOR 2012 TRIPS.

Also we share news of exciting developments for 2013, and now is the time to submit your application and refundable deposit to reserve your place in the team. Are you ready for 2013? Please read down for ***SPRING 2013 EXPEDITIONS AND TRAINING CLIMBS TO MOUNT EVEREST: AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT BY BOOKING EARLY.

My name is Dan Mazur, and I work for www.SummitClimb.com and www.SummitTrek.com, now in their 21st year. I have had the privilege to lead 9 Everest expeditions from the Nepal and Tibet side, as well as Manaslu, numerous trips to Ama Dablam, Baruntse, Mera Peak, Island Peak, Everest Glacier School, Everest Training Climb, Everest Basecamp, Remote Nepal Service Trek, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, as well as Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro. It has been an exciting and successful year for SummitClimb & SummitTrek and we look forward to keeping up the momentum this autumn, winter and spring. I hope you will join me for walking and climbing adventures as we head around the world with fun groups of men and women of all ages.

Some of the highlights (and lowlights) of 2012 so far:

Grace McDonald Summit at Lhotse (Grace) .  View of Nuptse, Lhotse, Everest and Ama Dablam just 15 minutes walk from Namche. (Sandra Le Duc). Giving out school supplies at the school in Patale.

1. This September and October, we have a new trip to Mount Manaslu, Nepal's easiest 8000 metre / 26,000 foot high peak and the 8th highest mountain in the world. The trek to Manaslu is one of the best in Nepal. Not only that, but Manaslu is superb for skiing and snowboarding. I am very excited to be leading this climb together with Himalayan expert Arnold Coster.

2. In May on Mt. Everest, I was fortunate to lead the oldest ever Australian and second oldest woman in the world, Dr. Jan Smith, to the summit, together with Tenji and Gyalje Sherpa. It was a fun and exciting trip to the top of our world's highest mountain. In fact, we were very lucky to have excellent weather and all of the members of our team summited Everest together with some of Nepal's finest climbing Sherpas and the world's best oxygen systems.

3. Lincoln Hall, perhaps Australia's most famous climber, tragically passed away in March. However, everyone here at SummitClimb feels fortunate to have rescued him from just below the summit of Everest in 2006, so he could watch his children grow up and spend 6 more years with his family and friends.

How has summer been for you (winter for our friends in the Antipodes)? Perhaps you are training for the upcoming expeditions to Tibet, spending time with your families and friends, as well as following the Olympics in London as our respective countries compete together. Best of luck to our world's champions as they go for the gold!

Please write or ring and let me know how your summer is going. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. Conditions here during early July were cool and wet but recently, now that August has arrived, it has been cloudy and foggy in the morning and clear in the afternoon and has neither rained nor snowed for a week. How is the weather where you are?

CHARITY/NON-PROFIT NEWS: Thanks to concerned and caring people around the world, we are working with the Mount Everest Foundation for Sustainable Development and local Sherpa families living in impoverished valleys near Everest, to build schools and hospitals in poor remote villages, and refurbishing and breathing new life into Nepal's oldest convent, near Everest. At the basecamp of our world's highest mountain, we have teamed up with engineers to design a system to safely recycle waste from Everest into valuable cooking gas and useful farm fertilizer. Please follow our projects at www.MountEverestFoundation.org.

MEET OUR LEADER DAN MAZUR IN AUGUST IN NEW ENGLAND: In fact, if you will be near New England during the latter half of August, please come to southern Maine, near Boston, on Friday evening, 17 August for a celebration party with delicious food and drink, honouring the Sherpas of Everest and the Deboche Nunnery. Get in touch with us at info@MountEverestFoundation.org to learn more and please tell all of your friends. Thanks!

CLIMBING NEWS: We've just returned from our annual July free of cost, no charge, all volunteer www.GlacierSchool.org . Our team of men and women of all ages from around the world had a brilliant time practicing ice climbing, roped glacier travel, crevasse self-rescue and snow camping. Our 20 members and 4 leaders achieved the summit of a very high 4400 metre / 14,400 foot high glaciated snow, rock and ice volcano. We were very lucky with the weather and the climbing route to the top was in excellent condition.

In May our Everest Nepal, Everest Tibet, and Cho Oyu climbing expeditions all summited, and our basecamp walks and Everest training schools all achieved their goals. We were lucky to have friendly teams of men and women of all ages with excellent leaders, top sherpas, the world's finest supplemental oxygen sets, superb equipment, tents, ropes, satellite phones, 2-way radios, satellite internet, delicious food and skillful cooks. Congratulations to everyone! Please read about all of the recent exciting news of our walking and climbing expeditions at
www.SummitClimbNews.com.com & www.SummitTrekNews.com .

WALKING NEWS: Want to travel to world famous Everest Basecamp or, perhaps even more remote areas with Dan Mazur, who knows the region well after more than 20 visits, stay in the homes of friendly Sherpa families and explore lush hidden valleys on wide, snow-free trails? You are welcome to come on over to gorgeous Nepal in October, November-early December and also in April, May and June to join men and women of all ages for our www.ServiceTrek.org and www.EverestBasecampWalk.com . Both of the latter treks are personally led by Dan Mazur. We also have some EXCITING NEW SPECIALTY TREKS like the Everest basecamp Wilderness First Responder Trek. Please join Dan Mazur and Susan Purvis for the walk to Everest Basecamp and earn your W.F.R. certification, an exciting and valuable life-saving course: www.WFR-Everest-Trek.com . Planning your Christmas and New Year's holiday? Please join expert leader Arnold Coster for the www.ChristmasNewYearTrek.com and do something different this year by spending your holiday season with friendly Sherpa families at the foot of Mount Everest.

LECTURE NEWS: This winter in February and March of 2013 you are invited to join our exciting Mt Everest (9 times) and Mt. K2 (2 times) leader Dan Mazur and Everest and Cho Oyu summiter, pilot, and motorcyclist Ms. Samantha ‘Squash’ Falconer. They will be presenting beautiful photos and ‘edge of your seat’ action videos telling thrilling stories of the climbs, mountains, environments and people they meet, all in the name of raising funds for charity/non-profit causes such as the Mount Everest Foundation for Sustainable Development, helping poor families living near Everest help themselves with Health, Education, Environmental and Cultural Preservation. "Squash", who is 29, loves riding her motorbike from her house to the base of the mountain, climbing up to the summit with ice axe, ropes, and crampons, and then jumping off in her paraglider. She has awesome movies and funny inspiring stories.  Dan Mazur is known for turning his Everest team around just below the summit in order to rescue a fallen Australian climber named Lincoln Hall, even when other teams walked past him and did nothing to help. Dan also is known for leading the K2 climb featured in Greg Mortenson's "3 Cups of Tea". Dan spins a fascinating selection of tales about tragedy and triumph on Everest, K2, and the rugged and remote mountains of Pakistan, Tibet, India, Nepal, and Central Asian Republics.

We are currently working to organize a selection of dates during February and March of 2013 throughout the world for these colourful 80 minute live multi-media presentations. Please let us know if you or a friend would like to host Squash and Dan at the venue of your choice. Thank you very much. For more, please visit: www.FundRaisingLectures.org .

AUTUMN TRIP NEWS: There is still time to join our walks, climbs, and service treks for September, October and November 2012. I warmly welcome you to team up with our friendly groups this year, and also consider 2013. Our trips feature fun teams of men and women of all ages from around the world with excellent leaders, top sherpas, fine food, good equipment, and a full-service approach, with everything you need, door to door, at very affordable prices.

Perhaps there is no better time to visit the Himalaya. Not only do the September-December and March-June seasons provide some of the best weather windows of the year, but 20122013 is a very good time to climb and explore in Nepal and Tibet, as tourism has dropped to its lowest level in many years, due to the global economic situation. The mountains are very quiet and it has been peaceful for the last 3 years everywhere in Nepal and Tibet. Additionally, we continue to emphasize offering a very high level of service at the most affordable prices.

It's time for you to confirm your place in our rapidly filling teams for this autumn and also spring & autumn 2013. Below please find the list of walks, climbs and service treks.

After all questions are answered to your (and our) satisfaction, please send your completed and signed application (email is preferable). To find the application, please go to www.SummitClimb.com or www.SummitTrek.com and in the upper right hand corner you can download it from the "Contact/Application" button. Many thanks!

Also, we need your refundable 10% deposit to hold your place in our teams, which fill rapidly due to our low prices. Regarding our charges, we have made every effort to encourage people to climb and walk in the Himalaya and Aconcagua and Africa by keeping our prices as low as possible. Also, because our company was founded and is run by climbers and walkers we would not feel comfortable charging more than we would be willing to pay ourselves.

I'm in our SummitClimb & SummitTrek office planning our expeditions and look forward to speaking with you. Please email, Skype, or telephone me at your earliest convenience. In case I am out walking and climbing when you call, do leave a clear message with your name, email address, and phone number:

UK telephone: +44 (0)7810 375400 (evenings best, I may be out climbing in the day);

US telephone: 360.570.0715 (please leave a message in case I am out climbing or walking);

Skype: SummitClimb

DISCOUNT NEWS: We offer generous discounts for groups of 2 or more, mountain guides, returning members, medical professionals, and referring your friends. There may be no better preparation for climbing Everest than a prior ascent of Cho Oyu. This will be Max’s 6th Cho Oyu expedition, and he is looking forward very much to climbing Cho Oyu with you. Max is a relaxed, well organised, and friendly leader who will teach you everything you need to know about high altitude climbing. We feel that Cho Oyu is one of the most beautiful of the world's fourteen "8000 metre / 26,000 foot high peaks”. Cho Oyu is not difficult, in fact it is considered to be the "most-accessible" of the "8000 metre" peaks and relatively easy, very large and located near Everest, so is not to be underestimated. About 1/2 of our members use oxygen for the climb and 1/2 do not, the choice is yours. If you choose to, we offer the "40 percent buyback" where we repurchase unused bottles and equipment returned in good condition, so it is as if you "hired" your oxygen equipment and bottles. SUMMER TRIPS IN 2013:

MOUNT MUSTAGATA WAS SELECTED BY NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC AS "BEST ADVENTURE DESTINATION 2012". Our leader Jon Otto has climbed Mustagata 9 times and he speaks perfect English and flawless Chinese. Not only that, but due to Jon's expertise, we have our own private basecamp and separate route on the mountain, following the traditional and nearly forgotten route of famed explorers Eric Shipton and Bill Tilman in 1947. At 7500 metres / 24,500 feet Mustagata is the world's 'easiest' peak of its size because the average slope angle is only 18 degrees, equivalent to a "novice" ski piste or run. Climbing Mustagata qualifies you for Everest. www.MustagataExpedition.com . 29 June to 23 July 2013. 25 days in China. Full Service Cost: $4950, £3150, €3750; Basic Climb Cost: $2450, £1550, €1850. Last expedition was a grand success, please go to www.MustagataNews.com.  By the way, all of our Mustagata members use skis, or snowboards, or snowshoes (raquettes) to ascend the mountain. If you are unfamiliar with these, it’s easy and affordable to rent a pair of our snowshoes (raquettes) on the mountain, which makes the ascent much more fun!
